Paula Zuffante, Ph.D., ABPP-CN

Dr. Paula Zuffante has had longstanding interests in neuroscience and child development. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston College, where she majored in psychology with a focus in neuroscience. Prior to attending graduate school, she worked as a research assistant in the Memory Disorders Clinic at the Boston VA Medical Center facilitating research on memory and neurocognitive disorders. She earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, specializing in neuropsychology, from the University of Florida at Gainesville and she completed a clinical internship in pediatric and adult neuropsychology at the Brown University Clinical Psychology Training Consortium. She then went on to complete a two year postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Before moving to the Capital Region, Dr. Zuffante played an integral role in developing the Pediatric Neuropsychology Program at Schneider Children's Hospital in Long Island where she worked as a clinician, researcher, and educator. Her areas of research focused on neuroimaging (MRI, fMRI) and executive functions.

Dr. Zuffante was licensed to practice psychology in the state of New York in 1997 and opened her own practice in 2002. She is active in professional service, both nationally and locally. She serves on the Neuropsychological Association of Neuropsychology's Pediatric Interests and Professional Affairs Committee. She also serves as a mentor and reviewer for board certification with the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, and she is a reviewer for neuropsychology research journals.

Dr. Zuffante is an active member of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS), Society for Clinical Neuropsychology (SCN Division 40 APA), American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN), American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), New York State Association of Neuropsychology (NYSAN), New York Neuropsychology Group (NYNG) and the Psychological Association of North Eastern New York (PANNY).

About Board Certification

Clinicians who are board-certified in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional (ABPP) and its subspecialty board, The American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN), have gone through a rigorous evaluation process to ensure their competence as neuropsychologists. This is important because most states (including New York) allow any licensed psychologists to conduct neuropsychological evaluations without actually having any specialized training in that area. The goal of ABPP/ABCN is to protect the public by examining and certifying psychologists who demonstrate competence in approved specialty areas. Choosing a doctor who is board certified gives you peace of mind by assuring the provider is appropriately trained and competent in his or her field.
